Football and food. I understand a bit about the first and a lot about the second.
Growing up down South and then going to USC for college, I learned quickly how incredible football is…not just the sport itself but the social traditions and pop culture that surround it. My guy has taught me a lot about the sport…and some of it has stuck in my head! What I know for sure is that with any great football watching experience, there needs to be good eats!! Check out my list of Foodie Favs for Tailgate Food.
For pretty much any party, a pizza is a good choice to bring to the table. From deep dish to thin-crust, meaty or veggie, raw and gluten-free — you have plenty of ways to enjoy your slice.
BURRITOS AND TACOS:
Having gone to USC for college plus my man being a Chargers fan, I learned quickly that SoCal does not hold back with their eclectic tailgate food. Burritos can be as common as burgers. My favorite is always the Cali burrito with those epic french fries inside.
Switch it up with different meats or go full veggie, maybe some tofu! Don’t hold back on that salsa though – spicy is the way to go!
Don’t let the simplicity of a dog and bun fool you. What I love about having hot dogs at tailgates is you can get pretty creative. From the type of bun or meat inside to the toppings – there possibilities go on and on. I’ve personally been swayed by Chicago to enjoy hot peppers on top of my dog!
Couldn’t leave this off the list! Growing up in the South, I learned quick that football is religion and BBQ is served at the mass. I’m partial to my Memphis dry rub as featured here. So whether it’s a pulled pork sandwich, BBQ nachos, or just plain ol’ ribs – it’s all welcome at a tailgate.
HOT WINGS & VEGGIES:
They may get a little messy but hot wings are a tailgate staple.
Make a fresh batch of these for your party and pair them with some crisp, cool celery sticks and carrots and a dip. Depending on how you prepare the hot wings, they can be a great option for those who want to enjoy the tailgate but stay away from heavier foods and tons of carbs.
